On July 1 1, the International Court of Justice (ICJ), the main judicial body of the United Nations, will issue its preliminary judgment on Friday, July 22, 2022 regarding Myanmar’s preliminary objections.

On Friday, July 22, 2022, the International Court of Justice (ICJ), the main judicial body of the United Nations, will issue its preliminary judgment on Myanmar’s preliminary objections to the application (Gambia and Myanmar) on the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide.

The public hearing of the court will be held at 3:00 pm at the Peace Palace in Haight, during which the president of the court, Judge Joan E. Donoghue will read the court’s decision.

However, the hearings and other court meetings to be held at the Court of the ICJ in the Peace Palace will be temporarily closed to the public at this time due to the Covid-19 epidemic.

Diplomatic personnel and members of the public will be able to watch the readings via live broadcasts on the court’s website or on the United Nations’ webcast.

Access to the Peace Palace will be limited to media representatives according to the specified instructions.

The Netherlands held a hearing on the initial objection letter submitted by Myanmar to the International Court of Justice (ICJ). It was held in The Hague from February 21 to 28, 2022.

A delegation led by Union Minister U Ko Ko Hlaing of the Ministry of International Cooperation and Union Minister and Union Attorney General Dr. Thita Oo visited the ICJ Court in The Hague from February 18 to 28, 2022 to face the case filed by the Gambia against Myanmar at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) for allegedly violating the 1948 International Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of Genocide.

On July 22nd, the Myanmar delegation will attend the ICJ court’s ruling, and it is reported that International Cooperation Minister U Ko Ko Hlaing will lead the attendance.
